Title
Use of Ironwood Golf Course for Fun Runs (NB)
The City Commission requested that the use of the Golf Course for Fun Runs be referred to the Recreation, Cultural Affairs and Public Works Committee for discussion.
Explanation
Commissioner Braddy was asked by a citizen if the city's Golf Course could be used for a 5K fun run. The use of golf courses for fun runs, or more typically, cross country runs, is not uncommon. To date the City's Ironwood Golf Course has never been used for a 5K fun run. However, the Leadership Gainesville Class of 32 is currently in the planning stages of hosting a 5K run to take place in April 2007 at Ironwood. While this type of event on a golf course is somewhat unique and relatively easy to set-up, it should be noted that to many events of this nature can be disruptive to the primary purpose of a golf course.
Fiscal Note
None at this time, but the hosting of fun runs at the golf course could generate additional revenues if a facility use fee was charged for this type of event.
Recommendation
The Recreation, Cultural Affairs and Public Works Committee: 1) hear a presentation; and 2) discuss as necessary.
