Interlocal Agreement with Alachua County for Public Transportation Services (B)
Explanation
For many years the City and Alachua County have annually entered into an interlocal agreement for public transportation services. The interlocal agreement provides for a base level of public transportation services to be provided by the City for the adjacent urbanized area. Two years ago, the interlocal agreement was expanded to include additional funds for enhanced bus service on Tower Road and Archer Road in an area of southwest Gainesville outside the City limits. The proposed annual interlocal agreement for the period October 1, 2000 to September 30, 2001 would continue the base level of service at the same amount as 1999-2000. The County payments for the Tower Road (Route 75) enhancements would increase from $83,000 to $179,000 recognizing that the two-year Florida Department of Transportation Joint Participation Agreement has expired.
Fiscal Note
The County would provide to the City $247,180 for the base level of public transportation services and $179,000 for enhanced bus service on Tower Road (Route 75).
Recommendation
The City Commission authorize the City Manager to execute the interlocal agreement between Alachua County and the City of Gainesville for public transportation services subject to approval by the City Attorney as to form and legality.
