Eastside Enhancements (B)
Explanation
The Regional Transit System (RTS) is currently under a demonstration project to improve transit service to three eastside routes with the highest ridership. The routes are numbers 6, 11, and 15. Route 15 carried 103,297 passengers, Route 6 had 97,164 passengers, and Route 11 had 95,079 passengers in FY 2000. RTS has received service development grant funds from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for this project.
The enhanced service consists of 30-minute frequency during peak hours (8 hours) for the summer 2001 service. If this implementation is successful, RTS recommends the continuation of the expanded service when the fall schedule begins in August 2001. In addition, RTS recommends the extension of service on these three routes until 11:00 PM concurrent with the implementation of expanded hours for student oriented routes, which is also scheduled for August 2001.
Fiscal Note
FDOT has sent a joint participation agreement (JPA) to RTS ($300,740.50) for the first year, with the option of a second year if the project is successful. Matching funds are available in the 2001 and 2002 RTS operating budgets to cover the City's share of the JPA.
Recommendation
The City Commission approve the resolution authorizing execution of a joint participation agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
