The City Commission: 1) approve Petition 32LUC-05PB; and 2) adopt the proposed ordinance.

explanation
STAFF REPORT

The subject property is 8.7 acres, is vacant and was annexed into the city in 2004. This property must be brought into conformance with the City's Comprehensive Plan. This requires amending the City's Future Land Use map to include this property. This petition would amend the City's Future Land Use map.

The property currently has a split county land use designation of High-Density Residential (14-24 du/ac) and Low-Density Residential (1-4 du/ac).

Education (ED) land use owned by the University of Florida is east and south of the property. Vacant property is adjacent to the west and north with Alachua County Low-Density Residential (1-4 du/ac).

Because the character of nearby properties is compatible and because the property borders the University of Florida campus, this property is most suitably given a Residential Low land use designation.

The Plan Board heard the petition and recommended approval.

Public notice was published in the Gainesville Sun on May 3, 2005. Letters were mailed to surrounding property owners on May 4, 2005. The Plan Board held a public hearing May 19, 2005. Planning Division staff recommended that the Plan Board approve the petition. The Plan Board recom...
