City of Gainesville Letter of Support for Projects Submitted by the University of Florida for Federal Transportation Funding (NB)

Explanation

The University of Florida (UF) has submitted two project requests to the federal government for transportation funding.  The projects are:  a bicycle/pedestrian overpass across SR 121/SW 34^th Street and bus terminal improvements throughout the university campus.  The bicycle/pedestrian overpass is a $4.4 million project and is included in the MTPO's adopted long range transportation plan.  The bus shelter project has a total cost of $780,000 and involves the installation of a minimum of nine bus shelters.  UF has asked that the City of Gainesville submit letters of support for these projects to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

None at this time.

Recommendation

The City Commission:  1) approve City of Gainesville support for the University of Florida's transportation projects; and 2) authorize the Mayor to draft a letter of support.

Alternative Recommendation:  The City Commission deny the request to support the University of Florida's transportation projects.
