Title
FDOT Service Development Grant Funds for Route 35 (B)
Explanation
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) allocates service development grant funds for public transit systems each year. The Regional Transit System (RTS) will provide service to the area from SW Williston Road to the main part of University of Florida campus such us Center Drive and McCarty Hall. This new route, Route 35, will provide new service to several high-density apartment complexes and major employers such as Nationwide and the US Postal Office on 34th Street. Route 35 will alleviate the current full passenger loads on Route 9 and should help alleviate traffic congestion on campus, Archer Road, Williston Road and 34th Street.
The grant program requires a 50% match. On June 26, the City Commission authorized expenditures up to $23,640, from the City Commission Contingency for service cost from August 14 through September 30, 2000. The County Commission approved the allocation of $220,000 for service beginning October 1, 2000.
Fiscal Note
Funds in the amount of $23,640 have been allocated from City Commission Contingency.
Recommendation
The City Commission: 1) approve the resolution authorizing execution of joint participation agreement with Florida Department of Transportation; and 2) authorize the Mayor and Clerk of the Commission to execute the Resolution, subject to approval by the City Attorney as to form and legality.
