Title
Teen Curfews (B)
Explanation
The City Commission referred the issue of teen curfews to the Public Safety Committee on October 14, 2002. The Public Safety Committee held a meeting with staff and citizens on February 20, 2003. After review and discussion, the Committee agreed not to recommend the implementation of a teen curfew, but to instead strengthen the educational aspect of existing juvenile programs and restrictions through dissemination of information to parents, neighborhood groups and media. The Committee also agreed to voice their strong support of continued funding of the Juvenile Assessment Center through letters to Governor Bush and the legislative delegation (attached).
Recommendation
The City Commission 1) not implement a teen curfew, allowing staff to strengthen the education of existing teen laws and programs through dissemination of materials to parents, neighborhoods and the media, 2) and support the continued funding of the local Juvenile Assessment Center through Commission Resolution.
