explanation
On December 19, 2013, the City Commission received the Gainesville Chamber Energy Competitiveness Report (Legistar item #130585). After discussion, a motion was approved to: Refer to the Audit, Finance and Legislative Committee whether to and a process by which the City Commission would meet as a GRU Board separate from regular City Commission meetings.

At its August 19, 2014 meeting, the Audit, Finance and Legislative Committee discussed the referral and the objectives of having more time to focus on GRU items and better utilizing GRU staff time by having staff present when needed for GRU items, but avoiding GRU staff sitting through lengthy General Government issues. In addition, the Committee expressed that they did not want to have an additional City Commission meeting each month and believed that their objectives could be met by having one afternoon session each month devoted to GRU business and one to General Government business, provided flexibility was retained to hear other items that were time sensitive or of importance. It was also expressed that the evening sessions should remain open to all business items, both GRU and General Government.
