This agenda item requests authorization from the City Commission for the Planning and Development Services Department to apply for and if awarded, accept a grant from the Florida Department of State, Division of Historical Resources Bureau of Historic Preservation to conduct a survey of the City’s post-WWII historic resources and complete an update to the City of Gainesville Historic Preservation, Rehabilitation, and Design Guidelines. No additional funds will be necessary to facilitate this request. Due to Gainesville’s status as a Certified Local Government (CLG), the City is exempt from the matching requirement.
Explanation
The City of Gainesville Planning and Development Services Department is seeking to submit an application to the Florida Department of State, Division of Historical Resources Bureau of Historic Preservation for a $50,000 grant to conduct a survey of the City’s post-World War II historic resources and complete an update to the City of Gainesville Historic Preservation, Rehabilitation, and Design Guidelines.
Fiscal Note
No additional funds will be necessary to facilitate this request. Due to Gainesville’s status as a Certified Local Government (CLG), we are exempt from the matching requirement.
Recommendation
The City Commission 1) authorize the Planning and Development Services Department to apply for the grant 2) approve the request to accept the grant if awarded, from the Florida Department of State, Division of Historical Resources, Bureau of Historic Preservation, and 3) if the grant is awarded, authorize the City Manager or designee to execute the grant award agreement and other grant related documents, subject to approval by the City Attorney as to form and legality.
