Explanation
The City Commission appropriated $100,000 in the Utilities current fiscal year budget to aid in the funding of the operation of the Council for Economic Outreach (CEO) a non-profit economic development corporation.
The proposed agreement, if approved, will continue the City's ongoing relationship with CEO. Your staff believes that the Utilities' participation in and financial support of a well-coordinated economic development program for the local area is yielding long-term benefits to the Utilities system. Your staff also believes that a continued successful economic development effort in this community will likely contribute to future increases in retail and/or wholesale sales and enhance the overall utilization of the systems facilities.
Based on our review of the progress of the CEO organization, your staff recommends approval of the agreement.
Recommendations
The City Commission authorize the General Manager for Utilities or his designee to execute the agreement with the Council for Economic Outreach subject to the approval of the City Attorney.
Fiscal Note
Funds are available in the FY98/99 budget for this expense. The proposed agreement is for the period beginning January 1, 1999 and ending December 31, 1999.
