Title
Funding Request from Sustainable Alachua County
Explanation
Sustainable Alachua County has submitted a funding request for $60,000 to the City and County to cover SAC's 1999-2000 operations budget. The proposed budget would fund a work plan including six community forums on sustainable issues and comprehensive planning issues, to be coordinated in partnership with other organizations. It also includes work on quality of life indicators, including tracking data and producing yearly indicator updates. SAC would use the INDEX GIS indicators available from the State of Florida.
SAC's proposal also would include presentations to local groups regarding the sustainability indicators, a quarterly newsletter, a citizen guidebook explaining how Alachua County citizens can participate in the planning process, and operations for the SAC office. SAC also would continue to provide input into various comprehensive planning issues.
SAC has proposed an alternative budget and work program, which would omit the indicators work, while including the other aspects of their work program described above. In this scenario, the Department of Community Development would do the indicators work, using the State-provided INDEX GIS indicators.
Fiscal Note
SAC proposes that one half of the funding come from the City under either scenario. The cost to the City would be either $30,000 or $18,750.
Recommendation
Hear a presentation from Sustainable Alachua County.
