Title

Hogtown Creek - Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration (B)

Explanation

By the authority provided in Section 206 of the Water Resources Development Act of 1996, the Public Works Department would like to request funding from the US Army Corps of Engineers to implement an Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration of Hogtown Creek and its tributaries.  The project will include hydrologic and hydraulic modeling of the Hogtown Creek watershed and implementation of the Hogtown Creek Erosion Control Plan.  The City will be responsible for obtaining land rights and for providing maintenance of the project facilities.  The project will be implemented over approximately three years, and the City's cost share will be due once the project is completed.

Fiscal Note

For any approved project, the Federal share of the costs is 65% with the remaining 35% paid by the City.  The total project cost is estimated to be $3,500,000, and the City's cost share is estimated to be $1,200,000.

Recommendation

The City Commission:  1) authorize the City Manager or designee to submit a request letter to the US Army Corps of Engineers; and 2) authorize the City Manager or designee to execute all other documents related to US Army Corps funding if the anticipated funding becomes available.
