Change Order # 1 to AMJ Construction, Inc for Wilhelmina Johnson Center Renovation (B)
Explanation
The Wilhelmina Johnson Resource Center (WJRC) is undergoing mechanical, electrical, ADA and cosmetic renovations. The electrical system is being replaced, the HVAC system is being replaced, all plumbing and associated ADA items are being upgraded, and the interior and exterior are being repainted. Structural walls were to be removed to open up small rooms into large open spaces. Due to hidden conditions, the removal of structural walls now necessitates the installation of steel I beams to carry the load of the existing roof. The new I beams also require ceilings to be changed. Hidden conditions also revealed crooked walls that have to be furred out with metal studs. The total for these changes comes to $28,294.
Fiscal Note
The Facilities Management capital projects account has $30,000 available which was designated for the replacement of a tile floor at Fire Station # 1.
Recommendation
The City Commission approve: 1) the issuance of a Change Order to AMJ Construction, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $28,294 for the renovations of the Wilhelmina Johnson Resource Center. 2) use of designated capital improvement funds scheduled to be used at Fire Station # 1. 3) reschedule Fire Station # 1 tile replacement for FY 2002.
