Explanation

The YES Program is supported by the City of Gainesville and administered by Santa Fe Community College.  This program hires youths between the ages of 14 and 21 years of age desiring summer employment.  Students are trained in employability skills.  The program has been supported by the City for many years and has proven to be very beneficial to the youth participating.

Fiscal Note

This program was budgeted in the General Fund, non-departmental expenditures.

Recommendation

The City commission: 1) authorize the City Manager or designee to execute a contract with Santa Fe Community College to provide job opportunities for unemployed youths under the YES! Program; and 2) approve the issuance of a purchase order for $35,000.00 for the period of June 19, 2002 through October 31, 2002.
