Explanation
The Rotary Clubs of Gainesville Foundation, Inc. provides funding to local Rotarians and Organizations of Alachua County for ideas/applications for "Rotary" projects. The proposed projects should benefit Alachua County, and ideally would not be possible without Rotary's support. The funds are raised at the Rotary's annual WILD GAME FEAST, which is held annually in March. The recipients of the grant funds are chosen by the Board of Directors of the Foundation. The net proceeds generated by the WILD GAME FEAST vary, therefore the specific funding amount is not guaranteed and the Foundation's actual contribution is determined by the Board of Directors.
Based on the criteria set by the Rotary Club Board of Directors, the City of Gainesville wishes to submit two (2) applications for consideration. By doing so, this will give the Rotary Club the option to pursue the project funding they feel best meets their criteria. The first application is for the acquisition and park improvements of the State of Florida Division of Forestry's Smokey Bear Park. The funding requested for this grant amounts to $550,000 and would include the acquisition of the 11 acre parcel to include the Forestry buildings and park property. This would also include renovations to add a parking lot as well as new playground equipment, picnic tables and other park amenities. The second application would be for the funding of the concrete bowl Skate Park at Possum Creek. The funding request for this project is $500,000. This would include the direct cost for the design and construction of the concrete bowl skate park that would be usable by beginner, intermediate and advance level skate boarders.
