Title

Year-Two Continuation Funding for Florida Department of Transportation Crash Data Grant Award (B)

Explanation

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has awarded the Gainesville Police Department $84,000 as year-two continuation funds for the conducting of a field test of the automated collection and dissemination of crash data using Minimum Uniform Crash Criteria (MUCC).  These funds will be used by the Gainesville Police Department to acquire the necessary computers, related equipment and software to collect and analyze crash data in Alachua County.  The benefits from the project will be: 1) reduce labor time to input traffic crash data, 2) increase the amount of corridor analysis that can be performed in a 12-month period, and 3) identify 25 non-traffic signalized intersections with a high crash rating.

Fiscal Note

Grant funding in the amount of $84,000 has been awarded to the City of Gainesville.  Of that $84,000, $50,000 will be awarded immediately, with the balance of $34,000 being made available later through a budget amendment once FDOT receives the remaining federal funds.  No matching funds are required.

Recommendation

The City Commission: 1) accept the grant award and 2) authorize the City Manager to authorize staff to include the necessary changes in the next amendatory budget ordinance.
