Title
Petition 53TCH-03PB Parking Storing or Keeping of Recreation Vehicles in Residential Districts (B)
Explanation
A citizen requested that the City Commission prohibit parking of recreational vehicles in front of residences. Current regulations allow RVs to be parked in the front yard only if the side and rear yards are insufficient to accommodate them. The City Plan Board recommended code changes to the City Commission who then referred the issue to the Community Development Committee for further consideration. After additional discussion, staff and the Community Development Committee concluded that it was best to allow brief exceptions for parking of guests' recreational vehicles and for maintenance of RVs. On November 24, 2003, the City Commission approved the Community Development Committee's recommendation to: 1) prohibit the parking of recreational vehicles over 16 feet in the front yard; 2) allow guests to park an RV for up to 14 days (if rear and side yards are not available); 3) provide alternatives for enforcement mechanisms; and 4) allow 24 hours for maintenance or loading.

Recommendation
The City Commission approve the petition as amended and authorize the City Attorney to draft the ordinance.
