Police Community Committee Report (B)
Explanation
On April 6, 1999, I notified the City Commission of the creation of a Police-Community Committee to address certain issues in the Gainesville Police Department. The Committee was composed of eleven citizens and two representatives from the bargaining units representing Police Officers. The Committee conducted over twenty meetings between May and November. The recommendations of the Committee were provided to you on November 30, 1999.
Police Chief Norm Botsford has prepared a response to the Police-Community Committee recommendations. Chief Botsford and I will present a review of these responses during the City Commission meeting of January 24, 2000. Members of the Committee have been invited to attend this presentation and respond to any questions that you may have concerning the recommendations.
Fiscal Note
Some of the recommendations will require funding which will be considered during the next budget process.
Recommendation
The City Commission hear a presentation on the recommendations of the Police-Community Committee and the responses from the Police Chief.
