Reclassification of Audio Video Technicians in Facilities Management Department (B)
Explanation
An on-site job audit determined that the essential job functions of the A/V Technicians, CWA pay grade 12 ($24,149 to $31,685), have changed substantially since the position was established. The new duties originate from the newly assigned responsibilities for production, programming, and coordination of television programs for broadcast on City Government's access cable television channel. This includes coordination and training of County staff and coordination of broadcast coverage of Alachua Board of County Commissioner meetings as well as City Commission meetings. Added duties include: trouble shooting and repair of a wider variety of complex operational/technical equipment of digital and analog broadcasting systems and linkages; responsibilities also include design and programming of the Channel 12 bulletin board. The current job description and assigned pay grade no longer appropriately reflect the scope of responsibilities and expertise necessary to do the job.
Fiscal Note
Approval of the recommendation will result in an annualized fiscal impact of approximately $10,500; this includes benefits. The Office of Management and Budget concurs with the estimated impact.
Recommendation
The Personnel and Organizational Structure Committee recommends the City Commission: 1) approve reclassification of one of the Audio Video Technicians to Broadcast Engineering Technician, CWA pay grade 16 ($29,423 to $38,605); 2) establish a new title of Lead Broadcast Engineering Technician in the Occupational Index; and 3) reclassify the other Audio Video Technician to the Lead position at pay grade 17 ($30,912 to $40,559).
