Resolution for FY 2010 Regional Transit System (RTS) Capital Grant 5310 Request (B)
This item is a request for the City Commission to adopt a Resolution to allow the Regional Transit System (RTS) to apply for a 5310 Grant to purchase a paratransit van to provide ADA service to the disabled citizens of Gainesville.
Explanation
Federal funds are available yearly through the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to purchase a paratransit vehicle. Previously, Resolution No. 080539 that was passed by the City Commission authorizing the City Manager to execute and file applications for such grants was sufficient. However, this year, FDOT has stated the Resolution must be dated within 30 days of the application due date which is January 15, 2010. The Resolution cited above was passed November 20, 2008, and is not within the required 30 days. For this reason, RTS is requesting the City Commission pass a new Resolution which will allow the grant application to go forward so RTS can obtain the funds to purchase a much needed paratransit vehicle.
Fiscal Note
RTS charges MV Transportation a monthly capital replacement fee which is used as the local match when applying for grant vehicles. The last van purchased was approximately $70,000. The RTS local match was approximately $6,700.

Recommended Motion: The City Commission adopt the Resolution to allow RTS to apply for 5310 Grant funds.
