explanation
Currently, all funds to provide fire rescue services are gathered through ad valorem taxes and other general fund revenues. On October 22, 2007, the City Commission heard a presentation from staff and representatives of Government Services Group, Inc. (GSG) for the development and implementation of a Special Assessment for Fire Services for the City of Gainesville. On November 12, 2007, the City Commission authorized the City Manager to execute a contract with Government Services Group, Inc. to develop and implement a Special Assessment for Fire Services. In 2008 the City Commission elected not to levy the special assessment. On July 27, 2009, the City Commission authorized the City Attorney to prepare the resolution that expresses the intent of the City Commission to utilize the uniform method of assessment for fire services for Fiscal Year 2010.
Resolution 090404 describes the City's intent to use the uniform method for collecting non-ad valorem special assessments annually for the cost of providing fire protection services to properties within the incorporated area of the City commencing with the Fiscal Year beginning October 1, 2010. This resolution does not commit the City to levy a fire services special assessment in Fiscal Year 2010.
