Contract for Redi-Mix Concrete (B)
Explanation
The Public Works Department Streets Division purchases approximately 2000 cubic yards of redi-mix concrete for use in the routine maintenance of City streets and drainage facilities. Redi-mix concrete is also used in capital projects and in repairs to City facilities as necessitated by utility installations.
The Purchasing Division solicited bids from seventy-four vendors. Two responded with bids. Rinker Materials Corporation was the low and primary bid for pick up items which include concrete, flowable fill and extruded curb mix. Southdown Inc. was the low and primary bid on delivered concrete. Rinker Materials Corporation was secondary bid for delivered concrete. Southdown Inc. was secondary bid for pick up items.
Fiscal Note
All purchases will be charged to the appropriate operating budget or capital improvement account.
Recommendation
The City Commission: 1) award a contract to Rinker Materials Corporation as primary provider for pick up items including concrete, flowable fill and extruded curb mix, and secondary provider for delivered concrete; 2) award a contract to Southdown Inc. as primary provider for delivered concrete, and secondary provider for pick up items; and 3) authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to execute contracts with Rinker Materials Corporation and Southdown Inc., subject to approval of the City Attorney as to form and legality.
