explanation
The City Commission, at its meeting of February 23, 2004, authorized the City Attorney's Office to draft an ordinance providing for the substitution of city canvassing board members when members are unable or not qualified to serve.
In summary, the City Attorney's Office is seeking approval of the following amendments to Section 9-14:
1. Substituting a county court judge should only one member be unable or not qualified to serve;
2. Substituting a county court judge as the first substitute and the supervisor of elections or designee as the second substitute should no member be unable or not qualified to serve;
3. Substituting a qualified elector of the city if a substitute member cannot be appointed.
If the City Commission adopts the ordinance on first reading, second and final reading is scheduled to be heard at a special meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2004.
