Add Material Handler to Aerial Device (NB)
Explanation
On May 22, 2000 the City Commission approved the purchase of a replacement aerial device from MTI Insulated, Inc. for $46,391.00 which was to be mounted on a cab and chassis purchased from King Truck for the Traffic Engineering Division. After reviewing the proposed applications of the bucket truck, it was concluded that the Technician's productivity and performance would be greatly enhanced with the addition of a material handler to the aerial device. This equipment would be sole-sourced to the manufacturer of the aerial device and will cost $8,094.00, bringing the total cost of the aerial device to $54,485.00 and the total purchase price for the unit (cab, chassis, body and aerial device) to $92,997.73. The replacement cost budgeted for this bucket truck was $95,000.

Funds are available in the Fleet Replacement Fund for FY00-01.
Recommendation
The City Commission approve the expenditure of $8,094.00 to add the material handler to the aerial device and authorize the issuance of a modified purchase order in the amount of $54,485.00 to MTI Insulated Products, Inc.
