This is a request for City Commission authorization to send a letter of support for a co-located Child Advocacy Center.
Explanation
The City Commission is requested to authorize Mayor Braddy to sign and send a letter supporting a co-located Child Advocacy Center. The City Commission adopted from 2007 - 2012 a Strategic Initiative facilitating a co-located Child Advocacy Center. A co-located center will address in a holistic manner the needs of children who are battered or abused and potentially involved in the criminal justice system as victims. In 2013 the City Commission modified our strategic plan in recognition that this community based initiative was proceeding in a rapid manner and did not need the concentrated focus from the City Commission to achieve the objective. The requested letter of support reiterates that the City Commission is strongly supportive of the concept of co-located programming and a co-located facility to address children's needs. A letter to this effect has been attached to the agenda item which will be transmitted to Ms. Marian Lee board chair of the Child Advocacy Center. It is the intent of Ms. Lee to announce the City of Gainesville and other entities support of a co-located child advocacy center.

There are no direct financial impacts from authorizing the letter of support.
