Request for City Commission Contingency Funds for the Heart of Florida Regional Coalition (B)
The Heart of Florida Regional Coalition is asking members of the Coalition Coordinating Board to financially invest in the Coalition by means of an annual membership investment.
Explanation
The Heart of Florida Regional Coalition is invested in the region through its involvement in planning and promoting regional economic development events, pursuing regional water supply protection and conservation practices, promoting regional legislative cooperation, participation in a regional workforce shortage initiative and regenerating a small business development support initiative. The Heart of Florida Regional Coalition has been funded through a Federal Grant that will soon expire. The Coalition is asking members of the Heart of Florida Regional Coalition Coordinating Board to financially invest in the Coalition by means of an annual membership investment. As a member metro city the City of Gainesville is asked to provide $2,000 annually. The City Manager recomends participation in this program.
Fiscal Note
The Coalition is requesting $2,000 from City Commission Contingency funds to be paid upon approval by the City Commission. The Fund balance as of May 8, 2008 was $63,845. Future Heart of Florida Regional Coalition membership investments of $2,000 annually would require appropriation in the budget as an ongoing expenditure beginning in FY 2009 - FY 2010.
Recommendation
The City Commission consider the request for funds and take action as appropriate.
