Application to the U. S. Department of Justice for Official Recognition for an Additional Weed and Seed Site (NB)
Explanation
The proposed new Weed and Seed site includes neighborhoods bounded by N. W. 8th Avenue to the north, Main Street to the east, Depot Avenue to the south, and N. W. 13th Street to the west. In order to be eligible to receive Weed and Seed funding for an additional site, the City must develop and submit a Weed and Seed strategy for the new area to be served. A Weed and Seed strategy must be developed in accordance with Executive Office of Weed and Seed guidelines which stress the importance of coordination with local leaders, service providers, and site residents. The application for official recognition must be submitted through the U. S. Attorney's Office in this district, and must include a transmittal letter from him.
Fiscal Note
There is no fiscal impact of applying for Official Recognition for this additional Weed and Seed site.
Recommendation
The City Commission: 1) receive a presentation from staff on the proposed additional Weed and Seed site, and 2) authorize the City Manager to execute the Memorandum of Agreement and submit an Application for an Officially Recognized Weed and Seed Site.
