Title
Roam Towing on Vacated NW 2nd Ave - University Corners (NB)
The Recreation, Cultural Affairs and Public Works Committee to address the Roam Towing issue on vacated NW 2nd Avenue - University Corners.
Explanation
On December 18, 2008 the City Commission referred the issue of roam towing on vacated NW 2nd Avenue - University Corners to the Recreation, Cultural Affairs and Public Works Committee. Representatives of Public Works visited the site of the vacated NW 2nd Avenue area and found a very confusing situation. Although it is technically private property, there are no signs indicating that. Also, the roam towing signs that have been placed appear to be indicating that the cleared lots are the tow areas, and there are no cars parked there. However, there are vehicles legally parked on the pavement, and, to anyone driving in the area, it would appear that street parking was allowed. The vehicles that are parked legally have tags hanging from their rear view mirrors. These tags are provided to his staff that works on NW 14th Street. Public Works has suggested to Mr. Henderson that he provide signage along both sides of NW 2nd Avenue that read "Decal Parking-Enforced 24/7, Subject to Tow"; this should adequately alert anyone driving down NW 2nd Avenue that general parking is not allowed. Mr. Henderson was out of town on Monday, March 9, 2009, but telephonically indicated he would look into resolving this issue on Tuesday upon his return.
Fiscal Note
There are no fiscal impacts to the City.
Recommendation
The Recreation, Cultural Affairs and Public Works Committee accept the report and any follow-up information.
