This item requests that the City Commission appropriate and expend an amount not to exceed $4800.00 from the State Law Enforcement Contraband Forfeiture Fund for the purchase of Crime Reports.com an interactive crime mapping program.
Explanation
CrimeReports.com is an interactive crime mapping program that will allow the citizens of Gainesville to obtain information regarding crime stats in their neighborhoods and provide them with the tools to prevent future crimes. Alachua PD, High Springs PD, ASO and UPD have already either subscribed to this service or plan to implement it soon. This will enable us to have a county-wide map which contains all of the agencies crime data. With the purchase of this service, we will allow the citizens of Gainesville the ability to protect themselves and also allow future residents to access information regarding neighborhoods.
Fiscal Impact
Funds for this expenditure are available in the State Law Enforcement Contraband Forfeiture Trust Fund, as allowed under FSS 932.7055. Balance of the State Law Enforcement Contraband Forfeiture Trust Fund is $116,865.00.
Recommendation
The City Commission: 1) receive presentation; and 2) authorize the appropriation of $4,800 from the State Law Enforcement Contraband Forfeiture Trust Fund, for the purchase of CrimeReports.com, a specified source, in the amount of $4,800.00 for the subscription of this service for a 2 year period.
Alternative Recommendation B: The City Commission denies funding.
