Title
LECFTF Funding for SFCC and COPS Minority Scholarships
Explanation
The Gainesville Police Department has been a partner in establishing an endowment for minority scholarships targeting at-risk youths. This is the third and final increment satisfying the department's commitment to this highly valuable program. Through the Cadet/Minority Scholarship program, the Gainesville Police Department has better opportunities for recruiting minority applicants to become Police Service Technicians or Police Officers, and to assist in providing continuing education and role models for at-risk residents.
Fiscal Note
Funds for this $50,000 expenditure are available in the State Law Enforcement Contraband Forfeiture Trust Fund account. The balance in this account is $50,745. These expenditures are permitted under F.S. 932.7055(4)(a) guidelines.
Recommendation
The City Commission approve the appropriation and expenditure of $50,000 from the State Law Enforcement Contraband Trust Fund to the Santa Fe Community College Endowment Board of Alachua County for the endowment of a minority scholarship program for at-risk residents.
