Explanation

In recent meetings of the Ad Hoc Committee on Homeless Concerns, the Executive Director of Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Gainesville (IHN) expressed the need to raise the visibility of the local congregations that participate in IHN, in hopes of showing what is currently being done to help the homeless.  By doing so, it is hoped that other faith congregations would be willing to become part of IHN, either as a host congregation or as a supporting congregation.  This presentation before the City Commission is one way to promote IHN's efforts to add local congregations that can provide emergency shelter for homeless families under the IHN umbrella.  Several presentations will be made by IHN over the next few months to encourage participation in the program.

Fiscal Note

The City currently provides $10,000 from its CDBG Program to support the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Gainesville. 

Recommendation

The City Commission hear a presentation from the Executive Director of Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Gainesville.
