Award of Bid: Construction Services for the Duck Pond Restoration Project (B)
Explanation
Bids were received for this project on January 23, 2002. The public bid process for this project noticed 860 suppliers of the opportunity, 32 firms obtained bid documents, and two submitted bids. Watson Construction, Inc., and John C. Hipp Construction Equipment Co. submitted bids of $1,104,800.00 and $1,767,514.65, respectively, as per the bid tabulation. Both bids exceeded available funding.
Available funding only allows for the award of the Duck Pond renovation (Bid Package A) and the installation of the sediment traps (Bid Package C) at 8th Avenue and 10th Avenue. The channel contouring between 6th Avenue and 10th Avenue and all plantings have to be constructed when additional funding is available next fiscal year.
Phase two of the project, channel modifications and plantings, will be rebid later this year.
Fiscal Note
Funding for the first phase of the project is allocated in the current Public Works Capital Budget for Stormwater, in the amount of $998,298.00.
Recommendation
The City Commission: 1) award a contract to Watson Construction, Inc., for bid packages A and C described above; and 2) authorize the City Manager or designee to issue a purchase order not to exceed $771,300.00 to Watson Construction Co., Inc., for the Duck Pond renovation and the installation of the sediment traps.
