Title
Denial of FDOT Special Use Permit to Install Wayfinding Signs (B)

Explanation
The FDOT has denied the CRA Special Use Permit Application for the placement of Wayfinding signs along University Avenue and Main Street.  The FDOT has provided a copy of their new standards, which require that the signs have no color or logo.  Without the FDOT's permission, the program that has been planned for the CRA would be so limited that it would not be worth implementing.

It is unclear as to why it should matter to the FDOT if the Wayfinding signs are bordered in a color that is not used for traditional traffic signs or if the sign has a logo.  Staff is requesting that the Mayor and the CRA Chair write a letter to the Secretary of the Department of Transportation and ask that the rationale behind the guidelines be explained and to request that the permit be granted.

Fiscal Note
None at this time.

Recommendation
Request that the City Commission authorize the Mayor to send a letter.
