North Central Florida Regional Hazardous Materials Team Interlocal Agreement
Explanation
Gainesville Fire Rescue currently provides hazardous materials emergency response to the City of Gainesville and Alachua County under the Designated Assistance Agreement. The Gainesville Fire Rescue Hazardous Materials Team is the designated regional team for Region 3 in the emergency plan for the Local Emergency Planning Council (LEPC). Region 3 includes eleven (11) counties in North Central Florida; they are: Alachua, Bradford, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Madison, Suwannee, Taylor, and Union. This interlocal agreement creates the North Central Florida Regional Hazardous Materials Team consisting of membership from the following municipalities: Gainesville, Starke, and Lake City; and the following counties: Alachua, Bradford, Columbia, Gilchrist, and Union. The other municipalities and counties within Region 3 will be encouraged to join. Utilizing resources available in each area, this regional team would jointly respond to and safely mitigate hazardous materials emergencies.
Fiscal Note
The department will utilize existing financial resources available within its current fiscal year operating budget.
Recommendation
The City Commission authorize the City Manager to execute the Hazardous Materials Response Team Interlocal Agreement between the cities of Gainesville, Starke, and Lake City; and the counties of Alachua, Bradford, Columbia, Gilchrist, and Union, and any other necessary documents pending review by the City Attorney as to form and legality.
