Prostitution Update (NB)

Explanation

As a result of over a year of discussions in public meetings, such as the Public Safety Committee, and through the diligent efforts of the Gainesville Police Department, Governor Bush signed into law HB 415.  Effective July 1, 2002 the bill provides that the third or subsequent violations of provisions prohibiting prostitution, certain activities reference prostitution, or purchase of services from persons engaged in prostitution is a third degree felony rather than a second degree misdmeanor.

Recommendation

The City Commission remove this item from the Public Safety Committee pending referral list.
