Signage in Public Parks and Athletic Fields (B)

Explanation

On March 6, 2001, the City Commission referred the matter of public park and athletic field signage to the Recreation and Cultural Affairs Committee for review and recommendation.  Both the Plan Board and the Public Recreation Board reviewed and endorsed the proposed parks and athletic field signage changes in June 2001.  On July 10, 2001, staff made a presentation before the Recreation and Cultural Affairs Committee that included examples of the proposed field signage.  The Committee then requested that staff conduct public meetings with the neighborhood groups closest to the affected parks.  Staff has conducted those meetings and received approval from those affected neighborhood groups; this was reported back to the Committee on February 18, 2002.  The Recreation and Cultural Affairs Committee now recommends that the City Commission approve the proposed park and athletic field signage changes.

Recommendation

The City Commission:  1) adopt the recommendations on public park and athletic field signage as proposed by the Recreation and Cultural Affairs Committee, and 2) direct staff to place the petition back on the City Commission agenda for a public hearing.
