...Title
Mason Manor Boardwalk 980947
...Explanation
On January 14, 1999, the City of Gainesville applied for funding for the construction of a boardwalk at the Mason Manor trail through the Florida Greenways and Trails Seed Grants Program. The $10,000 proposal included the construction of a footbridge, information kiosks and educational interpretation, re-vegetation and restoration of the Mason Manor trail. On January 11, 1999, the City Commission approved and committed the $5,000 necessary as a match for this grant proposal from the City Commission Contingency Fund.
On April 14, 1999, staff received notice from the Department of Environmental Protection and the Office of Greenways and Trails, that the Mason Manor Trail Boardwalk Development project was not selected for grant assistance. Although the project was not selected for funding, staff request that the construction of the footbridge and kiosks still take place with the funds committed by the City Commission.
...Fiscal Note
Transfer of the $5,000 previously approved from the City Commission Contingency Fund to Nature Operations.
...Recommendation
The City Commission approve the appropriated $5,000 from the City Commission Contingency Fund to be used to construct the bridge and kiosk which would be used to cover the cost of materials with the construction to be done through staff and volunteers.
