Explanation
The grant sponsored by ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute) and Leica will provide ten local agencies GIS (Geographical Information Systems)/GPS (Global Positioning Systems) software, hardware, and training needed to complete proposed projects. This equipment will then be available for the agency to use for additional projects in the future. The grant amount totals $18,900 for each agency awarded.

The program recipients will receive: one copy of ArcView GIS, one copy of ArcView 3D Analyst, one copy of ArcView Spatial Analyst, one copy of TASC Tracking Analyst, one introduction to ArcView GIS Class via ESRI's Virtual Campus, one copy of Extending ArcView GIS, one Leica GS50-RT GPS receiver for real-time submeter GPS/GIS data collection, one Leica GIS DataPRO Office Software, and one Leica GPS two day training course.

The City of Gainesville, Recreation and Parks Department, proposes preparing a grant project to map all features of the City's natural areas, including, boundaries, trails, natural communities, fire management units, flora and fauna transects, invasive nonnative plant populations, listed species populations, and facilities. In addition, staff will incorporate appropriate current and future data into the mapping software. Future projects to be completed with the equipment would be one of several from the City's various departments.

All recipients of the grant must agree to have their organizations name used in ESRI and Leica press releases and marketing efforts. Program recipients must agree to become a reference site of both ESRI and Leica. Continued maintenance of the software and hardware provided will become the responsibility of the grant recipient.

Fiscal Note
