Rosewood Trash Trap Project (NB)
This item is a request to authorize the City Manager to award the construction bid and to execute the construction contract and related documents for the Rosewood Trash Trap Project.
Explanation
The City of Gainesville has been designated to receive funding from the State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for the Rosewood Trash Trap Project. The project which is to be located in a wooded undeveloped lot just west of SE 9th Street in the vicinity of SE 10th Avenue, proposes to construct a structure to allow for the collection and removal of floating debris from the Rosewood Branch creek during storm events.
It is the desire of the State Administration to accelerate the construction of this project in an effort to maintain the available funding. This procurement is being done by competitive formal bid; however, by authorizing the City Manager to award the construction bid and execute the associated contract and related documents, provided the bid is within identified funding, and subject to approval by the City Attorney as to form and legality, an estimated minimum of three (3) weeks may be deducted from the start of construction schedule.
Fiscal Note
Funding in the amount of $500,000 plus a 15% contingency amount for a total of $575,000 is allocated and identified in the following sources for this project: DEP Grant Agreement No. G0181 ($309,555) and Stormwater Management Utility ($265,445).
Recommendation
The City Commission: 1) approve the purchase of the Rosewood Trash Trap Project in an amount not to exceed $575,000; 2) authorize the City Manager to award the bid for the Rosewood Trash Trap Project to the lowest responsive, responsible bidder, provided the bid award does not exceed $575,000; 3) authorize the City Manager to execute the construction contract and related documents, subject to approval by the City Attorney as to form and legality.
