Interlocal Agreement with Alachua County for Supplemental Shelter and Services (B)
This item requests the City Commission to approve an Interlocal Agreement with Alachua County from October 1, 2009 through September 30, 2011 to continue supporting the operations of emergency shelter services for the purposes of ensuring the health and safety of homeless persons and families during periods of cold weather or other emergencies caused by extraordinary circumstances that threaten the physical health and/or welfare of homeless persons.
Explanation
Since December 2005, the City has provided funding for the supplemental shelter and services for the provision of supplemental (cold weather) shelter and services to address shelter gaps for the homeless persons and families during the cold winter months (December-March). In response to the City Commission's inquiry, the Board of County Commissioners approved additional funding of up to $25,000 as appropriated annually at a special meeting on January 16, 2008. Since that time, the City and County have continued to jointly fund this program to provide these services through an Interlocal Agreement.
In accordance with this Interlocal Agreement, the City and County will contribute $25,000 collectively each year for a total of $100,000 for supplemental shelter and services during the term of the Interlocal Agreement, contingent upon a specific annual appropriation by the City Commission and Board of County Commissioners. The Interlocal Agreement approves the transfer of up to $25,000 from Alachua County each year during the term of the Interlocal Agreement to be utilized by the City as stipulated by the Board of County Commissioners.
Fiscal Note
