Explanation
The equipment is a replacement for an existing 1982 truck and crane that has an extremely high maintenance record and has come to the end of its useful life. The unit is specifically used to lift and install materials in the installation and maintenance of the water distribution system.
Invitations to bid were sent by Utilities Purchasing to three prospective bidders with two responding, one with a no-bid. Altec Industries submitted a bid which meets all the technical requirements of the bid and Fleet Management has determined the bid price is competitive based on the current market value. A bid tabulation is attached for your reference.
Recommendations
The City Commission approve the issuance of a purchase order to Altec Industries for the purchase of a 40-foot derrick crane for the Water Distribution Department in the amount of $61,206.

Funds for this purchase have been included in the FY 04 Water Distribution Budget.
