This item involves a request for the City Commission to authorize Amendment #1 to the contract between the Florida Department of Corrections and the City of Gainesville to provide for the use of inmate labor and supervision for city work projects.
Explanation
The Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs entered into a contract agreement with the Florida Department of Corrections from November 22, 2006 through November 21, 2007. The major work focus of the inmate crew is litter removal along city roadsides, parks and other public areas; as well as helping with special projects that occur from time to time. The Contract Amendment is in the amount of $55,777 renewing the Contract for one year. Staff is requesting the contract amendment because there are no more available extensions.
Fiscal Note
Funds in the amount of $55,777 are currently allocated in the Parks Division general operating fund.

Recommended Motion: The City Commission authorize the City Manager or designee to approve the amendment to the contract with the Florida Department of Corrections.
