Race Relations Follow-up (B)

Explanation

The Office of Equal Opportunity held a two-day race and race relations summit in September of 2006.  It was agreed by staff, other organizations in attendance, and citizens that there should be a follow-up process to take action concerning the various issues discussed.

At the March 20, 2008 EOC meeting, Consultant Karimah Nonyameko presented an 18-24 month plan of action to include two more workshops before the end of July 2008, and a citywide event in early fall with emphasis on the need of financial and political support.

Recommendation

The Equal Opportunity Committee: 1) hear a presentation from the EO Director on a developed budget item for the 2009-2010 budget year for this matter; and 2) take whatever action deemed appropriate.
