Third-Year Funding for COPS MORE 1996 (Making Officer Redeployment Effective) Grant Program (NB)
Explanation
The City of Gainesville, on behalf of the Police Department is requesting $19,615 in federal grant funding from the U.S. Department of Justice's COPS MORE '96 Grant Program, "Making Officer Redeployment Effective". These grant funds will be matched with $6,539 for a total project cost of $26,514. The purpose of COPS MORE '96 is to help police departments become more efficient by providing civilian personnel which allows law enforcement officers more time to engage in community policing activities.
Fiscal Note
The $19,615 in federal funds will be matched with $6,539 from the State Law Enforcement Contraband Forfeiture Trust Fund, as allowed under FSS 932.7055(4)(a). The balance of the State Law Enforcement Contraband Forfeiture Trust Fund is $13,038.01.
Recommendation
The City Commission authorize the City Manager 1) to accept third-year funding for the already established COPS MORE Grant Program, 2) to appropriate $6,539 from the State Law Enforcement Contraband Forfeiture Trust Fund, 3) to execute the grant contract and any other documents that may be necessary, pending approval by the City Attorney as to form and legality.
