Explanation
On July 9, 2001, the City Commission requested that staff recommend procedures to minimize collateral damage to hardwoods during removal of Southern Pine Beetle infested pines. Staff is submitting proposed changes to the Emergency Southern Pine Beetle Suppression Program adopted on April 30, 2001, to specify handling of infestations to minimize collateral damage to hardwoods, provide more oversight on large infestations eliminated by logging operations, extend the time for property owners to respond to the cost-share option from two to three days, and limit the number of pines removed through the cost-share program on any single property to 15.

No additional financial allocation is requested.
Recommendation
The City Commission: 1) hear a brief presentation from staff on the proposed changes; and 2) adopt the proposed resolution making changes to the Emergency Southern Pine Beetle Suppression Program.
