Explanation

On July 12, 1999, the City Commission appropriated $25,000 from City Commission Contingency for a feasibility study and marketing plan for a multi-purpose recreational center that can be used for Olympic/aquatic training. The funding went through the Gainesville Community Foundation, Inc. as the agency doing business for Sports Planning Organization for Recreation and Training (SPORT).  On December 6, 1999, and June 27, 2000 Bill Richards of SPORT updated the City Commission.  The contract term expired after 18 months on December 12, 2000.

Recommendation

The Recreation and Cultural Affairs Committee recommended the City Commission authorize staff to extend the contract period, with the funds remaining within the contract in the amount of $1,878.67, with SPORT for their use to evaluate the location of the multipurpose center as a primary component of the City's Stormwater Park.
