Title
Purchase of In-Car Video Systems for Gainesville Police Department's Marked Patrol Vehicles (B)
Explanation
The Gainesville Police Department is in the process of trying to obtain video cameras for all marked patrol vehicles. The few in-car video cameras currently in service have been used in the enforcement of DUI's, as well as to document officers' behaviors in traffic enforcement and non-traffic related situations.
This group of video camera purchases is for sixteen (16) in-car video units, along with one (1) playback/dubbing recorder, five (5) spare plug-in lapel microphones, three (3) spare leather holsters for audio transmitters, and two hundred and seven (207) Sony HI-8 video tapes, for a total cost of $62,498.50.
Fiscal Note
Funding for this $62,498.50 request is available from two combined sources. The Local Law Enforcement Block Grant is providing $40,000 (account 115-810-X495-5210-6040), with the balance of the amount ($22,498.50) coming from the department's operating budget (account 001-810-8140-5210-6040).
Recommendation
The City Commission authorize the City Manager or his designee to execute the purchase order to The Specialized Group in an amount not to exceed $62,498.50 for the purchase of the in-car video cameras and associated equipment.
