Request for City Co-Sponsorship (B)
Organizers of the Five Points of Life Marathon are requesting that the City be a Co-Sponsor of this event.
Explanation
The Five Points of Life Marathon which is organized by LifeSouth Community Blood Centers and the Gainesville Sports Commission (GSC) will take place on Sunday, February 18, 2007. This will be the second year that LifeSouth and GSC has organized and hosted this event.
The permitting process required for this event has been completed and all associated costs for city services have been identified.
LifeSouth/GSC is requesting that the City of Gainesville be a Co-Sponsor of this event so that payment for GPD services can be at the reduced rate associated with a city co-sponsored event.
City departments providing services for this event include Gainesville Police, Gainesville Fire Rescue, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs and Public Works.
Fiscal note
The total costs for City services without the City's co-sponsorship is $27,713. Should the City of Gainesville choose to be a Co-Sponsor, the total cost for City services would be reduced to $25,206.
Recommendation
Recommended Motion: The City Commission approve LifeSouth and GSC's request for the City of Gainesville to Co-Sponsor this event, thus allowing for reduced rates for City services.
Alternative Recommendation: The City Commission deny City Co-Sponsorship of this event.
