DISSOLUTION OF THE CONSOLIDATED RETIREMENT PLAN ADVISORY COMMITTEE (B)

ORDINANCE NO. 0-02-54

An ordinance of the City of Gainesville, Florida, amending Division 8 of Chapter 2 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Gainesville, relating to the Consolidated Police Officers and Firefighters Retirement Plan relating to the advisory committee to the Board, providing directions to the codifier; providing a severability clause; providing a repealing clause; and providing an effective date.

recommendation
The City Commission adopt the proposed ordinance.

explanation
At its meeting of July 22, 2002, the City Commission authorized the City Attorney to draft and the Clerk of the Commission to advertise an ordinance amending Section 2-602 of the Code of Ordinances to eliminate the Advisory Committee.  Management explained that Section 2-602(w) of the Code of Ordinances provides for an advisory committee as a component of the City of Gainesville Police Officers and Firefighters Consolidated Retirement Plan and that due to several factors involved in the administration of this retirement plan, the need for such an advisory board no longer exists.  Further, during a meeting on March 8, 2002, the advisory committee recommended to the Consolidated Retirement Plan Board of Trustees that the advisory committee be eliminated.  The Consolidated Board considered this recommendation during its meeting of May 17, 2002, and voted unanimously to support the proposed dissolution of the advisory committee.  Since the advisory committee is referred to in two other sections of the Code, the City Attorney's Office has modified those other provisions accordingly.
