FY01-02 Cultural Outside Agency Grant Funding (B)
Explanation
The Gainesville/Alachua County Cultural Affairs Board uses the Cultural Plan to evaluate Cultural Outside Agency grant applications, assessing each application for its ability to meet criteria specified in the Plan, including arts and cultural accessibility, education and audience development. A public scoring workshop was conducted on March 17, 2001 to review applications. The Board approved final funding recommendations at its April 11th meeting.
Applications were received from 12 agencies this year, 11 of which are recommended for funding. The 12th applicant did not receive sufficient points to be eligible. Applicants must score 75 points or better to be eligible for funds (this is based on the State of Florida, Division of Cultural Affairs' process). Evaluation of applicants takes into consideration the following: fiscal and artistic history of the applicant, verification of 501-C-3 status as "not-for-profit" agency. Evaluations specifically review three areas: audience development, project management and program merit.
Fiscal Note
Funding for Cultural Outside Agency grants is currently budgeted at $60,000 for FY01-02. The total amount of awards as recommended by the Board is $60,000.
Recommendation
The City Commission: 1) hear a brief presentation by Gainesville/Alachua County Cultural Affairs Board Vice-chair Doug Diekow, regarding FY01-02 Outside Agency grant awards; and 2) approve the FY01-02 Outside Agency grant awards as recommended by the Gainesville/Alachua County Cultural Affairs Board.
